The Campaign and Next Steps

Unfortunately, the crowdfunding campaign conducted over the last month, despite your efforts, did not receive the positive feedback we had hoped for. However, we are not discouraged! Microeden will not stop: we are actively working on a new campaign, which we plan to launch next year with different terms and approaches, capitalizing on the lessons learned from this experience.

We have learned a great deal from this journey and are taking the necessary time to reorganize and improve.

While the campaign would have been useful to accelerate the development timeline for both the Dot and the entire Microeden project, our commitment over the coming months will focus on building the operational structure that will form the foundation of our startup.

Our Next Objectives

We have defined the following points as priorities for the coming months:

1. Strategic Partnerships: Consolidate relationships with Italian partners who will allow us to produce and assemble the electronic components of the Dot.
2. Stable Sourcing: Identify reliable and stable suppliers for the various components, overcoming the reliance on unstable sourcing we have had until now.
3. Product Development: Conceive and develop a series of accessories dedicated to the Dot.
4. True Sustainability: Research and establish collaborations with producers specialized in plastic recycling, to make our products genuinely sustainable.

We are aware that the goals we have set for ourselves are ambitious, but we firmly believe that Microeden can occupy a market space where technology serves nature even before people. Every product we develop and sell to our community will be designed with environmental sustainability in mind.

Mirko speaks here, and I’d love to tell you how our project started — and what’s coming next as we work to make Dot a product ready for the market.

Everything began about two years ago, when I moved from a small countryside village in central Italy to the city of Turin for work.

I’ve always been passionate about nature, but living in an apartment made me miss that connection with the natural world. That distance gradually pushed me to create what you can now see on our website.

Before Dot, there was another project — a smart terrarium case that I was developing with a few friends. Unfortunately, for several reasons, we had to abandon it. But the core idea behind Dot comes directly from that experience.

Dot was born out of my personal need to have a small piece of nature close to me — on my desk at home or at the office. I wanted something that could help keep a terrarium alive even away from a window, and that could take care of itself whenever I forgot to.

For work, I design and prototype devices for companies, mostly focusing on software development. But this time, I wanted to create something for myself — a personal project.

One evening, my friend Arturo came over to my place. He noticed this strange gadget sitting on my desk, so I showed him how it worked and why I was building it. After a moment, he said:

“I want to work on this with you — let’s build it together!”

Arturo is an electronics engineer, and his expertise gave the project the technical boost it needed. That’s when Dot truly started to come to life.

The idea behind Dot was simple: a cork lid containing all the electronics needed to manage and automate the terrarium.

My first prototype featured a color touch display, a feature I was determined to keep. At one point, we considered removing it to lower production costs, but in the end, we decided to keep it.
The display allows users to interact directly with the device, customize settings easily, and do it all without needing an internet connection or smartphone.

At that point, Dot was no longer just my personal experiment — it was becoming a product for all terrarium lovers.
After several iterations on the external design, software, and internal components, we finally built the first fully functional version of Dot.

What you can see on the website today is still a prototype, but it already captures the essence of the final product.
There’s still a lot of work ahead, but we believe that the Kickstarter campaign can give us the push we need to make this ambitious idea a tangible reality.

We’re now working toward two major goals for the final, market-ready version of Dot:

• Using recycled plastics for all the external shell parts.
• Reducing the height of the device to make it slimmer, more elegant, and visually appealing.

We’re putting our hearts into transforming what began as a personal need into a beautiful, meaningful product, and to grow Microeden into a brand that can take on new challenges and create innovative green design solutions for the future.

While we enthusiastically follow the progress of our Kickstarter campaign, development on the Dot continues at full speed. When we talk about our smart cap, we’re not just referring to the physical object and its features, but also to how it interacts with you.

We’ve spent a long time imagining what the perfect software for a smart terrarium should be — and we’re truly proud of the result. Below, we’ll walk you through the current state of Dot OS development and some of the features we plan to introduce in the coming months.

Home page

After numerous prototypes and iterations, the home page has finally found a balance between design and functionality. The colors are soft and harmonious, inspired by the materials that make up the Dot, creating a natural and cohesive interface.

The layout is designed for intuitive navigation: at the top of the screen you can view the overall status of your terrarium, while the lower section houses the main controls and interactive elements. The brightness slider follows the curvature of the display, maintaining a smooth and elegant look.

In manual mode, dedicated switches allow you to turn the fan and lights on or off, each accompanied by clear, intuitive icons. On the right side of the controls, you’ll find the button to access the settings menu.

Lighting

The Dot’s lighting themes let you create unique atmospheres inside your terrarium. Some lighting profiles are designed to support plant health, while others serve purely aesthetic purposes.

An integrated editor allows you to customize each individual LED directly from the display, giving you complete creative freedom. In addition, light timers make it easy to precisely manage the photoperiod best suited to your plant.

Dehumidification

We’ve paid special attention to humidity management. The Dot can automatically regulate the terrarium’s dehumidification thanks to an intelligent compensation algorithm that activates when condensation levels exceed the optimal threshold set by the user.

This system is fully customizable: you can adjust both the air exchange intensity and the fan’s aggressiveness profile. An efficiency indicator shows how effectively the Dot is reducing humidity, helping it decide autonomously when to act and when to hold off.

Wi-Fi Connectivity

Although the Dot is designed to function independently, without external apps, it can be connected to your home Wi-Fi network for remote management. Connecting the Dot to the Internet also enables free software updates and, in the future, push messaging — allowing you to receive personalized tips for your plant and informational notifications directly on your device.

Software Updates

Our goal is to keep your Dot always up to date for as long as the hardware allows. Updates will deliver new features, enhanced security, and ongoing improvements — without the need to replace your device.

Messages

The Messages section will allow you to receive communications, updates, and exclusive content from Microeden and the community. This feature will become available once our Cloud infrastructure is fully operational.

Versioning

The Dot OS versioning system allows you to easily identify which version of the software is installed on your device. Each release follows the format X-XwXa, where:

• 2.0 represents the main version (major release)
• 25 indicates the release year
• w stands for “week”
• 41 is the week number
• a represents the revision (b, c, d… for subsequent updates)

For example, the current development version is 2.0-25w41a. You can check your installed version under Settings → Info, and use the Updates function to verify if a newer version is available.

Looking Ahead

Our work on the Dot doesn’t stop here. We’re already developing new functions and enhancements to make the experience even more natural and engaging. The Dot is designed to evolve over time — just like your plant.

We’re thrilled to announce that pre-orders for our Dot are now open!
We decided to launch on Kickstarter to see how much people appreciate our idea and to find out whether our dream can finally come true.

After a year and a half of hard work, we’ve brought to life our little Dot — a smart cap for bottle terrariums.
We’re putting everything into this crowdfunding campaign, which will allow us to certify the product, scale up production, and officially start our own company.

Our plan is ambitious, but we truly believe it can become reality. This is just the beginning of a journey that will allow us to grow Dot and, in the future, develop more nature-inspired devices.

It’s official — every Dot has its own personality, just like every plant does! Some plants are trickier to keep alive than others, and right now we’re experimenting with a special Halloween-themed Dot featuring a Dionaea, the famous Venus flytrap!

The Dionaea muscipula is quite a challenging plant to grow. Through our tests with different Dot prototypes, we’re exploring whether our devices can actually keep it healthy. It won’t be easy — and we might fail a few times — but we’ll keep experimenting until we find the perfect settings to create the ideal environment for our little “hungry” plant.

But wait… how can it eat insects inside a jar?
Good question! The truth is, the Dionaea doesn’t necessarily need insects. What really matters is the right soil for carnivorous plants, proper lighting, and adequate humidity. These last two factors are essential for keeping the plant happy and thriving.

Feeding on insects is simply an evolutionary adaptation that helps carnivorous plants obtain nutrients in poor soils.

We hope to find the perfect balance soon! Our goal is to provide the Microeden community with the ideal settings right from launch — so every plant lover can enjoy growing this fascinating species at its best.
